Benefits
Welcome to the Sergeants Benevolent Association Health & Welfare
Fund! We hope you find this section to be a valuable
source of information concerning your health benefits.
It is important to note, before reading further, that
while we may sometimes refer to the “Fund” or “H&W
Fund” as a single unit, active and retired SBA
members are actually represented by separate entities.
For each respective plan, there are separate collective
bargaining agreements, contribution funding, accounting,
and reporting and benefit provisions.
Since the inception of the SBA Active Member Health & Welfare
Fund on July 1, 1993, the Fund Trustees – your
elected SBA officers – have provided a broad
spectrum of benefits including optical, dental, prescription
drugs and catastrophic coverage. Furthermore, many
previously covered benefits have become part of Basic
Health Plan Benefits, which are provided by the City
of New York.
It is our expectation that our Fund benefits will
continue to provide the broadest coverage for the greatest
number of our participants and eligible family members
at the lowest cost. The SBA Health & Welfare Fund,
and the benefits plan it provides, exist solely to
serve the best interests of our members. We encourage
you to become familiar with your many available benefits,
and urge you to utilize them.
